6th Annual Medical Research Conference in Abu Dhabi: 14 Top Doctors Win Awards

 

 

SEHA 1The Abu Dhabi Health Services Company integrates the culture of evidence-based medicine (research) in its practice of medicine at its state-of-the art facilities. The role of research in healthcare is tremendous to promote the health of the UAE population.  –

“Since its inception, SEHA has been aware of the importance of conducting medical research, we’ve provided all support and encouragement

for our professionals to conduct  research in order to improve and benefit the patients within the realm of patient safety and quality patient care..” SEHA said.

“It was heartening to learn that the number of scientific abstracts have increased every year from 2009, this year a total of 264 were submitted online and 247 accepted to be presented in the conference.  The abstracts submission increase is a reflection of the  amount of efforts SEHA devotes to promote research from its health care professionals. The competition for awards by the staff makes it more challenging and exciting. This year winners, 14 in total, excelled in their area of research. The vast majority of abstracts submitted was from the UAE national medical residents, almost 60% of the total” said SEHA.

SEHA congratulated each of the winners for their splendid achievement. The winners were honoured by Dr. Ali Abdulkareem Al Obaidli, Group Chief Academic Affairs Officer  at SEHA and Prof Yousef Abdulrazzaq during the concluding ceremony of the 6th Annual SEHA Medical Research Conference organised by SEHA during December 16 and 17. This year’s edition addressed outcomes of health services and the ways to contain their costs

 

The researches that won during the Conference were selected by a committee of international competent experts from the USA and the UK. The neutral committee chose the researches based on certain scientific criteria applied in evaluating the medical researches.

The researches were divided into four categories. The best posters, the best oral presentations, the best e-posters, and the best research presented by residents in residency programs of SEHA hospitals.

Maha Al Fahim, Director of Family Medicine Residency Program at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, won the first place in the posters category for her research “Resident as Teacher” Module to Residency Training in Abu Dhabi

Lolowa Al Mekhaini- Al Ain University won the second place for her research (A cross-sectional survey on childhood vaccine-preventable diseases in the United Arab Emirates)

Ritu Angie won the

third place for his research “clinical and laboratory characteristics of Lupus nephritis patients in the tertiary care centers in Abu Dhabi. Also Sarah El Hajj Chehadeh- won the third place side Ritu for her

research “the relationship between MTHFR C677T and A1298C gene polymorphisms and complications of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in an Emirati population”

In the category of e-posters, Mareya Al Marzooqi won the first place for her research “prevalence of depression among patients with Type II diabetes following in ambulatory health services clinics in Abu Dhabi Island”

Aisha Al Khaaldi of Tawam won the second place for her research “the efficacy of combined Vancomycin / Gentamicin as the empirical antimicrobial treatment of choice in late onset neonatal sepsis.

Meanwhile, Salama Al Hosani won the third place for her research “smoking prevalence, attitudes and behaviours of primary healthcare providers and its Impact on their smoking cessation counselling practices at  SEHA in Abu Dhabi”

In the category of oral presentations, Rafa Blanco won the first place for his research “Quadratus lumborum block versus TAP block for postoperative pain after caesarean section”

Marwan El Deyarbi won the second place for the research of Asthma Management and Prevention Program “AHS Experience” at SEHA.

Tarek El Azzabi won the third place for his research “The Approach to the Child with Epilepsy (APCWEP) in the city of Al Ain”

In the category of the resident researchers, Shamma Al Nokhatha from Tawam  won the first place for her research “analysis of ECG interpretation by trainee residents in Al Ain academic medical center in the UAE”

Rami Al Ani won the second place for his research “the confidence of paediatric residents in performing musculoskeletal screening examination in children”

Meanwhile, Shamma Al Muhairi won the third place for her research “Vitamin D deficiency among healthy adolescents in Al Ain, United

Arab Emirates”. Also Shaima Lari won the third place beside Shamma for her research “Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Pap Smear as a Screening Test Among Women Attending Primary Health Care Centers in Abu-Dhabi Island”

Also Tawam Hospital won the award of the entity that presented the highest number of research abstracts which reached 70 submissions by its medical team during the Conference.

The 6th Annual SEHA Research Conference-2015 was concluded by honouring the speakers who participated in the sessions of the Conference on their contributions to the medical research.

The Conference witnessed a number of workshops and scientific sessions during its two days discussing important views and researches on the possibility of containing costs of health services with preservation of providing high quality services.

The conference hosted a number of national and  international experts from prestigious medical universities around the world like  Jodi B.Segal, Panos Kanavos,  Dennis Templeton, Andrew Chase, . Peyvand Khaleghian, Martin A. Makary,  Greg Raglow, . Fekri Zidan, . Heitham Hassoun,. Abdul Rahman Al Hassawi, Deputy Director of Planning and Training at Health Authority in the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia, Ali Meshal Advisory Diabetes and Endocrine and others.
